Orange Glad November 2015

This month, we got:

Shotwell Candy Co. – Tennessee Toffee

Seattle’s Chocolates– Thanks-olate Bar (Milk Chocolate and Toffee)

Dottie’s Delight– Maple Caramels

The Poisoned Apples – Salted Toffee Chocolate/Shortbread/Caramel Bar

Studmuffin Desserts– Bleeker Street Brittle

I loved the bar from The Poisoned Apples the most this month! I was only mildly satisfied with the box as a whole, though. So many items had toffee, so if you’re not into hard/toffee stuff, you probably wouldn’t get much use out of this box. Plus, Orange Glad usually sends at least 1 (or more) baked items like cookies or brownies, and that was missing from this box. I’m hoping for some cookies for December!

More about Orange Glad: $15/month + $4 shipping. Orange Glad sends a selection of artisan baked goods (cookies, pastries, etc.) from across the U.S. carefully selected and packaged. Coupon: $10 OFF your first box (more than 1/2 off!) here.

Grey Ghost cookies

Grey Ghost cookies

Grey Ghost Bakery – Cookies in Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip – $2.50 each

These are soft and yummy. I’ve had Grey Ghost before in many other subscription boxes and love them.

Butterfields candies

Butterfields candies

Butterfields – Hard Candies in Lemon, Peach, and Honeybell – $2.75 each

I’m not wowed by hard candy, but I know Treatsie sends a lot of candy (rather than baked goods). I tried the Peach flavor of these and they are actually really good. The whole bag smells like peach. It reminds me of those peach rings you can buy. I kind of wish these were gummies and not hard candies, but they are bursting with flavor.

Walker Creek caramels

Walker Creek caramels

Walker Creek – Sea Salt Caramels – $8

I wouldn’t pay $8 for these, but they are delicious. Soft, buttery, and the right amount of salt in each caramel. For $8, though, I’d expect to get a much bigger bag.

August Treatsie box

August Treatsie box

The total value of this month’s box is $21.25. I wasn’t blown away by this box, but I enjoyed everything in it. There just wasn’t anything that special about it to me. It was still a fun box to get and with such a big discount on your first box, it’s worth trying!

More about Treatsie: $19.95/month; $56.85/4 months; $203/12 months. Treatsie sends gourmet sweets from 3 different vendors each month. Coupon: Click here and use the code FRBUCO01  to get DOUBLE the sweets in your first box OR $10 OFF your first box..

August 2015 box

August 2015 box

I enjoyed the assortment of treats in this month’s box. Last month, I preferred Orange Glad to Treatsie and would recommend it of the 2. I love how you get to try 5 different artisan’s treats and I love the detailed brochure with information about each artisan. This box is a nice subscription box experience overall.

Orange Glad does not include retail values of their products in their information card. They do tell you about each artisan/shop, the best by date of your treats, and the ingredients. I appreciate this touch! Because these items are made in local, small shops, I didn’t do a cost breakdown of this box. Watch my unboxing video HERE!

McTavish ice cream shortbread

McTavish ice cream shortbread

McTavish – Ice Cream Shortbread

This was a buttery shortbread cookie with adorable round sprinkles on top. A good alternative to ice cream (since they can’t mail that)!

A Couple of Squares raspberry shortbread

A Couple of Squares raspberry shortbread

A Couple of Squares – Raspberry Shortbread

This is softer and more buttery than the other shortbread in the box. The raspberry center is a nice touch, too.

The Art of Caramel popcorn

The Art of Caramel popcorn

The Art of Caramel – Bananas Foster with Dark Rum Popcorn

This popcorn tastes just like caramel corn to me. After some bites, you can sort of taste the rum, but only if you’re looking for it. I don’t taste banana at all. That’s fine with me, because I love caramel corn, but don’t expect a strong banana flavor in this one.

Greyston brown sugar blondie

Greyston brown sugar blondie

Greyston  – Brown Sugar Blondie

This is a huge blondie! It’s rich and very sweet. It has almost a cake or pastry like taste and texture. I could never eat this entire thing in one sitting.

Darling Gourmet Goodies biscotti

Darling Gourmet Goodies biscotti

Darling Gourmet Goodies – Vagabond Biscotti

This biscotti is nice and crunchy like biscotti should be. The flavors all shine through. Some pieces broke off in shipment, but most of the 4 full size biscotti are still in tact.

I was pleased with the variety in this month’s box. Orange Glad definitely sends out more cookies/pastries than Treatsie so I think it’s a personal preference as to which one you prefer. I like both boxes and wish there was one that combined pastries and candies! I do like that this box included some chocolate, since it’s hard to put full size chocolate treats in boxes in the summer. I also like that you get to taste from 5 different artisans in Orange Glad, as opposed to only 3 in Treatsie. Which box do you prefer?! Leave a comment below!

Stonewell Toffee Trail Mix

Stonewell Toffee Trail Mix

Stonewell Toffee Trail Mix

Stonewell Toffee Trail Mix (melted!)

Stonewell Candy – Trail Mix Tennessee Toffee (2.5 ounces) – $7

This was good, but as you can see, everything melted into one blob. I’m not sure what it’s actually supposed to look like. Treatsie has a promise that if something arrives melted, they will do something about it (I’m not sure what yet). I’ve contacted them and I’ll let you know what they say! The flavors were nicely balanced. I could taste the toffee, cherries, and nuts in the bite I took. It was very sweet.

Wackym's Kitchen cookies

Wackym’s Kitchen cookies

Wackym’s Kitchen– Cookies in Salted Caramel and Margarita (8 cookies in each package) – $4.50 each

These are crunchy cookies. I only tasted the salted caramel ones so far. I do like them, but they are pretty strongly caramel, almost to the point of being slightly bitter. I do taste the salty notes (which I enjoy), but I think these could be sweeter. The margarita ones are supposed to have lime and sea salt as their main flavors.

Anya's Licorice

Anya’s Licorice

Anya’s Licorice– Licorice sticks in Mango, Strawberry, and Cherry – $2 each

This is gourmet licorice! I’m not sure if it’s because these were slightly soft from the hot weather or that’s how they are, but these sticks are a lot less hard/chewy than the licorice I’m used to eating (ahem.. Twizzlers). These are all natural and have no artificial ingredients (win!). I’m excited about these because I haven’t had licorice much at all since I stopped eating most artificial ingredients. The strawberry one I tasted had a light strawberry flavor. These remind me of a thicker fruit strip. Yum! These are my favorite thing in the box.

Treatsie July 2015

Treatsie July 2015

The total value of this box is $22, which is just over the cost of the box. These values seem reasonable and true to me and what you’d expect to pay if you walked into these small artisan shops to buy treats. This box seems like a splurge box to me (and maybe not one I’d get every month), but it’d be a great gift for someone or for you to enjoy for a few months. I’m excited to see what they send in the winter (chocolate….) when everything won’t melt
